We Quizzin’

With February just around the corner comes intensive quiz training.

All Formula Student teams have to answer an engineering quiz in order to be selected to attend the competitions. Each competition has its own quiz with its own set of rules and all european registration quizzes will take place on January 31st spaced two hours apart.

It will be intense – wish us luck!

Christmas Dinner Party

The team hosted its traditional dinner party just before christmas break where team members, alumni and faculty advisors got together to celebrate the holiday season (secret santa challenge included!) and to update on the usual and inevitable knowledge sharing.

The team thanks and wishes Happy Holidays to everyone present – It was a good one!

Rouelle at the Workshop

After following the team’s progress for some time now, Formula Student judge Claude Rouelle visited the workshop alongside former team member João Antunes.

Particularly focused on areas related to the performance of racing prototypes such as vehicle dynamics and data acquisition, this was an opportunity to learn about the methods implemented by the team and the set of skills that recruiters value the most.

It was a pleasure having you here!

Savannah at the Workshop

Savannah Resources’ CEO David Archer and Joana Prazeres – Head of Communication and Community Affairs visited the workshop.

This is the 2nd year that Savannah Resources Plc – a mineral resource development company committed to taking part in the E-Mobility up-and-coming revolution – sponsor FST Lisboa.

This way, the team sees the opportunity to partner with great enthusiasm, especially this season where we ally our EV programme with a driverless project.

SKF Workshop

The team attended the workshop given by SKF on the bearing selection process where the company’s new tool, SKF Bearing Select, was presented.

These parts are used in almost every kind of machinery, since they reduce friction consequently allowing smoother rotations while still protecting the part that supports the rotation, and maintaining the correct position for the rotating shaft.

So for example, every bellcrank implemented on the car has 2 bearings between it and its support. In total, on the suspension systems, FST 10e will have over 20 bearings with different properties.

The team also welcomed SKF representatives at the workshop during which they validate some of the solutions designed for the transmission of the FST 10e.

Preston at the Workshop

FST Lisboa had two very special guests at the workshop today: Engineer and Formula-E Team Principal Mark Preston and StreetDrone CEO Mike Potts.

In the midst of design season, the opportunity to discuss ideas and goals for this season was especially beneficial to the chassis area that could discuss manufacturing techniques as well as to the driverless project as Street Drone is a company focused on urban mobility to scale the roll-out of autonomous vehicle trials currently ongoing in urban environments such as central London.

Open Day

Full house on the Open Day!
Thank you to the more than 100 people who visited our workshop.
If you missed the chance to participate and would like to join the team, the recruitment is still open!

Crash Course on Logistics

ManWinWin Software is a solution for managing and organizing equipment maintenance that has been implemented in the team’s workflow this year to expedite the challenging inventory management task that has so much impact on workshop working conditions.

Anticipating needs is fundamental for the workshop’s continuous functioning, therefore, and following the training given at the company, FST Lisboa organized a training session for the rest of the team members in order to make the platform accessible to all those who use the different resources daily.
